Ever year God surprises me with just how much M.T.M.O. is able to accomplish. This year was no different.
In August of 2010, a small group of us traveled to Honduras seeking God’s guidance on where and how we could help the following January. There were may needs identified such as: water project sites, people in need of clothes, shoes, medical care and eyeglasses and multitudes that yearned to hear the Word of God. And so it began. Ten official work days later we were ready to depart from Honduras, excited about what God had planned. I say “official work days,” because, for some, every day was a work day – a day spent planning and working towards the success of this trip. Throughout the year and while we are in Honduras there are so very many that work so diligently here at home donating time and money to make our efforts such a resounding success year after year.
Several months later, on a frigid January morning, 13 people braved the snow and ice to depart Nashville International Airport to prepare for the full team’s arrival. This small group was able to lay the groundwork for our main team’s labor. Without their diligence we could not have accomplished the tasks set before us in such a short time table.
Soon we were joined by the full team of 59 eager volunteers and work began immediately. From the time they stepped off the plane, the labor was exhausting and each team member unselfish. No task was beneath this group and no hour too early or too late to work for the betterment of God’s kingdom. We completed 4 separate water projects, including the building of a reservoir dam that increased the drinkable water of a small town in the hills of Honduras by 50 times their previous capacity. Every day we visited a new village distributing clothes, shoes, eyeglasses, medical care and shared the love of God through preaching to adults and children. Only in reviewing the pictures from this monumental effort can I can truly appreciate all that was accomplished in such a short amount of time. Look at what God can do!
After our safe return to the State’s, our trip officially concluded on Saturday, February 5, 2011, with the MTMO banquet. We enjoyed great food and fellowship, followed by a beautiful picture/movie presentation.
I want to personally thank each and every person that had a hand in this trip –those that traveled to Honduras, those that worked in preparation, those that donated items, and those that held down the fort at home.
Now it’s time to think about 2012’s trip. I plan to visit Honduras in July and see what God places on my heart as to where we need to be and what we need to do during that visit. Please be thinking about how you too can be involved. The trip will be sometime in the middle of January, most likely the week of Martin Luther King Day (so the kids only have to miss four school days). Please check back at this site regularly for updates and more information. We welcome your input and assistance throughout our journey towards God’s trip to Honduras in 2012.
